Circles of Support
The people closest to the person of focus will be most aware of the person's gifts, strengths and capabilities, and can advocate on their behalf. People with particular expertise can also be brought into the circle for a time, to provide assistance with particular issues or challenges as they arise. There is an ebb and flow of people within the person of focus's Circle, as in anybody else's circle of friends and associates. The Circle of Support meets regularly at a place of their choosing, to plan, set goals and socialise. In this way, the group responds to the needs and wishes of the person of focus. With the help of the Circle of Support, the person of focus is able to extend their range of every day contacts, sharing their gifts and talents, and developing new skills, interests and friendships. The person of focus begins to develop the lifestyle he or she wants. Commitment is shared among the members of the Circle with the aim of ensuring that no one person is overwhelmed or stretched too thin in providing support for the person of focus. |
